Jean-Nicolas Diatkine (born in Paris in 1964) is a French pianist whose singular path was shaped outside the conservatory system. Heir to Claudio Arrau’s school through Ruth Nye, he spent thirteen years studying musical architecture with composer Narcis Bonet: for him, understanding the score is the prerequisite to any interpretation. He gives regular recitals in Paris at Salle Gaveau and Salle Cortot, and performs throughout Europe and in Japan. His recordings of Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin and Schubert have been praised by the European press for their sincerity and depth.
